An unusual piece of Royal Copenhagen porcelain in the form of a cylindrical vase hand-painted with botanical subjects and two gilt bands.

With a toned down feel of the prestigious Flora Danica inspired pattern. I have been unable to find another white bodied Royal Copenhagen vase decorated with botanical scenes besides what is recognised as being the pattern, nor have I been successful in finding another example of this shape.. perhaps a prototype piece or done by a skilled artist at home.

Flora Danica is a comprehensive atlas of botany from the Age of Enlightenment, containing folio-sized pictures of all the wild plants native to Denmark, in the period from 1761 to 1883. In 1790 the Danish Crown Prince Frederik ordered a dinner set decorated with exact copies of the plates of Flora Danica. The dinner set was meant as a gift for Russian Empress Catherine II. Catherine, however, never received it, as she died in 1796. It is currently on display at Christiansborg Palace, Amalienborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle, and its legacy is strong.

Late 19th / early 20th century with the crowned ROYAL COPENHAGEN stamp in green under the glaze and the blue waves trademark - used from 1889 until approximately 1922.

In great overall condition, on the underside there is a faint star crack just to the glaze and small chip / 'slice' to the rim.. please view the photos.

Height: 25 cm - Base diameter: 14 cm
