19th Century Scottish Staffordshire Newhaven Fishwives Figure Antique Pottery

A 19th-century Staffordshire flatback figure depicting a pair of Newhaven fishwives standing side-by-side in traditional costume. The figures are dressed in white cowls, shawls, and striped yellow skirts, with hand-painted details in blue, red, and black enamels.

A blue-topped basket or creel sits to the left of the figures on a rocky base decorated with applied shredded clay textures representing flowers or foliage. A subtle gilt lining remains along the oval base.

There is debate as to whether these were made at a Scottish East Coast Pottery or a Staffordshire Pottery, in either case they are lovely and well-made.
