This 19th-century French cobalt blue glaze ceramic pedestal tazza produced by Auguste Jean (1829-1896) features a circular bowl containing a seated cherub surrounded by an intricate wreath of grapevines, turquoise leaves, and clusters of purple grapes. The bowl is supported by a central column adorned with three winged cherub heads, which are modelled in high-relief with their feathers extending horizontally around the pedestal, appearing to support the weight of the bowl above a flared, tiered base.

The entire piece is finished in a high-gloss glaze, with hand-painted facial features of the cherubs along with decorative bands encircling the foot and pedestal. Auguste Jean was a prominent Parisian artist active during the mid-to-late 19th century, known for his sculptural ceramics and later his experimental glasswork.

The underside is finished in a white speckled glaze and bears the artist's signature in blue enamel.

Height: 19.5 cm - Diameter: 18.75 cm
