19th Century English Herculaneum Greek Neoclassical Antique Pottery Plate (1)
19th Century English Herculaneum Greek Neoclassical Antique Pottery Plate (1)
A superb example of early 19th century English blue and white transferware featuring a Neoclassical style designed plate with brown glazed edging.
Produced c.1810 by Herculaneum pottery in Liverpool, with this neo-classical “Greek” pattern being introduced in 1806. It catered to the demand for classical subjects created by the Greek Revival style. The images were taken from the 1804 publication Outlines from the Figures and Compositions upon the Greek, Roman and Etruscan Vases of the late Sir William Hamilton; with engraved borders. Drawn and engraved by the late Mr. Kirk.
In good overall condition with no chips or cracks.. a few pinhead production flaws to the glaze and just standard wear like scratches consistent with age.
Diameter: 20.5 cm
I also have another available for sale.
