This set of nine early 19th-century Georgian porcelain plates features the highly celebrated Spode pattern 967, which is a premier example of the English interpretation of Japanese Imari style.
Each plate is designed with a scalloped rim and a richly decorated border composed of alternating panels of cobalt blue underglaze, iron-red overglaze florals, and intricate gold scrolling. The central motif depicts a stylized oriental garden scene featuring a large, gilded peony blossom beside a geometric fence and a slender tree with orange leaves, all rendered with heavy hand-applied gilt accents.
This specific pattern was introduced around 1805 and became one of Spode's most successful designs due to its vibrant colour palette and the luxurious quality of the 22-karat gold detailing. The porcelain body exhibits the fine, translucent quality characteristic of early Josiah Spode bone china. Most of them are marked on their undersides with the pattern number 967 in red, and one has remnants of writing.
Please thoroughly inspect the images to see their condition - there is some light wear to surface and gilt + two plates have stapled repairs.
