A set of 9 plates with highly detailed polychrome enamels featuring a design of two pheasants perched on a mossy branch surrounded by botanical elements, including tall lady's slipper orchids and blue flowers.
The scalloped rims are decorated with a detailed border of floral vignettes and scrolling patterns in deep red, green, and dark blue tones.
Diameter: 23.5 cm - 475 g each
Marked on their underside 'No 8L' - interestingly I have seen a dessert dish and serving bowl of the same pattern but marked 'No 84' instead. I have also found a few attributions to Mason's for this design, it is very alike to their pattern know 'Oriental Pheasant' but these are arguably better with their tonal variations and level of detail along with the intricate borders. With that being said, I cannot say these are Mason's despite other people's attribution - Instead I believe them to be produced by John Ridgway, circa 1830.
In good overall condition with general crazing and some slight discolouration commensurate with their age - one plate has a chip to the underside of rim and a few have cracks (view final photos)
