This 19th century Japanese Meiji porcelain Imari plate features a classic Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron-red enamels, and extensive gilding.
The central roundel depicts a stylized floral or bamboo arrangement in blue, surrounded by a diaper-patterned border. Radiating from the centre are scalloped cartouches containing a variety of traditional motifs, including blooming plum blossoms, pine needles, and flying cranes, which are symbols of longevity and good fortune.
This plate dates from the Meiji period, specifically between 1868 and 1912, when Japanese export porcelain saw a resurgence in quality and intricate detail for the international market.
