An 18th Century German Rococo Scrolls coloured etching, designed by Franz Xaver Habermann.
The artwork depicts six separate sections of ornate, gold-coloured scrolling rococo or acanthus vine motifs interspersed with small hand coloured blue and pink flowers, set against a plain white background. The print is professionally presented within a thick cream matting with inner gold and red lining, and is housed in an antique-style gold-toned frame with carved detailing.
Franz Xaver Habermann (1721-1796) was a German engraver and designer from Augsburg, primarily known for his prolific work in prints and ornament. His career highlights include a significant role in disseminating the Rococo style through his widely circulated ornamental prints (rocaille) for craftsmen, and his popular production of perspective views ("vues d'optique") of international cities, notably of American cities, which, though often imaginative, catered to the 18th-century demand for exotic views.
The V&A museum have multiple examples of his work including these rocaille designs, they are hard to find available for sale and especially so with colour.
