Georgian Spode Pearlware Pottery Gothic Castle Plate Platter Set Antique English

A Georgian early 19th century pearlware set of 5 deep plates and a large platter produced by Spode featuring the highly sought-after blue and white Gothic Castle pattern, dating from the early 19th century, approximately 1810.

This set comprises a large, serving platter and five plates expertly decorated with an intricate design depicting romantic classical landscape, a pattern Spode famously adapted from an Italian landscape scene. The main Gothic castle scene is beautifully framed by the pattern's distinctive border, which includes detailed, separate cartouches or vignettes showcasing various exotic animals, such as deer, giraffes, and elephants along with figures, and oriental garden elements. Executed in a deep, vibrant underglaze blue colour along with the characteristic slightly blue-tinted pearlware glaze.

With a crack to the platter and restoration to rim, there are a couple of small chips to the plates and one crack (view final photos)
