A late Victorian to early Edwardian watercolour landscape by the English painter, author, and influential art educator Alfred William Rich NEAC (1856–1921).
Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art, Rich was a core member of the New English Art Club (NEAC) and a prominent advocate for preserving classic British watercolour techniques, authoring the widely respected manual Water Colour Painting (1918). His work is held in major public collections including the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the British Museum.
The composition features a low-horizon pastoral vista under an expansive, cloud-filled sky executed in Rich’s signature rapid, spontaneous washes. In the foreground, cattle graze across open pasture land leading toward a distant town skyline marked by a square church tower and industrial chimneys.
Frame: 56 x 45.5 cm - Painting: 36.5 x 25.5 cm
