However, 19th century Chinese artisans did create pieces specifically for European collectors who were obsessed with "The Orient." They would often combine traditional Chinese subjects (the Bactrian camel) with Western-style detailing (the textures of the sacks and the scimitar) to appeal to the international market. The way the cargo is packed (balanced between the two humps) is very traditional for Silk Road imagery, whilst the presence of the curved blade and woven panniers fits the profile of a merchant's caravan animal.

From the Ming dynasty until the end of the Qing Chinese foundries produced bronze animals like this to serve as paperweights or decorative "scholar's objects" for a desk.

In good overall condition with some wear to the base and warm patination to metal.

Height: 15.5 cm - Length: 19 cm - Width: 11 cm - Weight: 1695g

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0653/4856/7268/files/57_e72f4dae-23a5-4b32-86c0-eaa5dc0009e1.png?v=1792926968
https://www.tommystreasure.com/ja/products/19th-century-chinese-export-orientalist-qing-bronze-caravan-camel-figure-antique
